Read article at Massey Research Online:
Ms Mentis’ research focused on factors that influence the design of e-learning environments. The study explored the interrelated areas of e-learning technology and pedagogy within the context of a postgraduate special education and educational psychology programme. Using a scholarship of teaching and learning approach, the study covered three successive phases of teaching, learning and research activities. The first phase focused on using a community of practice approach to e-learning. The second phase investigated alignment of e-learning technology and pedagogy. In the third phase of the research Ms Mentis developed an e-learning alignment guide as a tool for educators to use in designing online learning environments. The key contribution of this study is an approach to aligning technology, pedagogy and context when navigating the changing and complex terrain of e-learning in higher education.
