Thesis Title
Twisted Intercalating Nucelic Acids (TINA) in Guanosine-rich Oligonucleotides
Read article at Massey Research Online:
The ability to target specific DNA sequences inside the live cell has far-fetching implications in biotechnology and medicine such as gene regulation, visualisation of chromosomes and, most of all, treatment of genetic diseases like cancer. Osman Doluca designed and synthesized artificial probes based on guanine-rich oligonucleotides for this purpose with the help of organic chemistry and molecular biology. The findings of his work lay the foundation for the efficient design of artificial DNA binding probes capable of visualising chromosome regions with high sequence-specificity.
