Dr Mathrani is an Associate Professor in the Information Sciences department within the School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences. His particular specialism is in ICT applications in industrial operations to promote transformational development in areas of design and innovation, supply chain management, and the field of enterprise system and business intelligence technology. He leads coordination of graduate and postgraduate projects in information sciences and supervises doctoral programs. Dr Mathrani is a Chartered Professional Engineer from Engineering New Zealand and a consultant to industry.

Dr Mathrani brings over two decades of rich industry experience to academia with expertise in ICT and global supply chain management through key roles in renowned multinationals including Alstom, Brunswick, and Navman. His outstanding contributions have been recognized with prestigious awards, notably receiving the "Outstanding Contribution to Wireless Business Solutions Global Supply" accolade from Navman NZ in 2006. Dr Mathrani is a certified auditor of quality management systems to ISO 9001:2000. He has assisted several organisations in implementing process improvement strategies for ISO accreditation endeavours. 

Dr Mathrani has authored over 100 articles published in esteemed journals, enterprise system handbooks, and conferences hosted by internationally reputable publishing houses. His work is published in leading academic journals such as Computers in Industry, Business Strategy and the Environment, Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management, and Journal of Enterprise Information Management. He holds editorial memberships of high ranked journals including Elsevier’s Computer Standards and Interfaces and Australasian Journal of Information Systems. 

Dr Mathrani has delivered plenary talks disseminating professional expertise in several international conferences. He has conducted workshops on cutting-edge ICT practices at global universities and provided consultancy services to renowned organizations both in New Zealand and overseas. Dr Mathrani serves as the Ƶ Albany representative and holds senior membership status with Engineering New Zealand, reflecting his commitment to advancing the field of information sciences both locally and internationally.

Research Interests

Dr Mathrani's research focuses in green, lean and agile manufacturing systems, collaborative product development, quality and performance management, environmental performance and sustainability, and knowledge-based technologies such as enterprise resource planning, product lifecycle management, and business intelligence systems.

The research provides new insights on strategies for increasing agility and environmental performance in manufacturing environments resulting in 25 journal, 6 book chapter and 30 refereed conference publications in the last 6 years as well as invites from universities for sharing findings with their academia.

Research leadership is demonstrated through editorial memberships for Elsevier’s Computer Standards & Interfaces journal and Australasian Journal of Information Systems as well as organizing committee memberships and plenary talks in international conferences. 

Supervision of honours and postgraduate students including individual research and industry-sponsored product development projects has led to introducing new designs and process improvements in sponsoring companies.
