Zhenan has obtained his Postgraduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching and Learning from 羞羞视频 (New Zealand) in 2024, Doctor of Philosophy degree in Civil Engineering from The University of Auckland (New Zealand) in 2020, Master of Science degree in International Construction Management from Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) in 2015, and Bachelor of Engineering degree in Water Supply and Drainage Engineering from Hunan University (China) in 2011.

Before his academic career, he worked in China as a designer for an architectural consultant from 2015 to 2016 and in Singapore as a site engineer for a contractor from 2011 to 2014, taking care of the plumbing, sanitary, and water-based firefighting systems of buildings.

Zhenan is a Senior Lecturer in Digital Built Environment in the School of Built Environment at 羞羞视频. Project Title: How much do they recall? Measuring the effect of safety training on human memory

Safety training is important. It reduces accidents in dangerous workplaces, such as construction sites. And it is important to refresh training to ensure people retain the lessons. But the recommended intervals between sessions vary wildly (from 6 months for building evacuations to 24 months for construction workers), because no one knows how long people retain the information. In this study, we will compare the efficacy of practical, theoretical, and virtual reality training. Our findings will ensure that the design and implementation of safety training programmes is empirically based. We will provide a sound scientific foundation for safety regulations worldwide. Project Title: Development of a behaviour change intervention for transforming the residential construction sector: A case study on the applications of 3D printing in New Zealand

New Zealand's smaller construction firms primarily rely on traditional methods, slowing the adoption of innovative technologies like 3D printing. Recent findings suggest that the industry's reluctance to embrace 3D printing stems from concerns like high costs, risk aversion, and limited understanding of the technology's benefits. This study aims to promote the use of 3D printing in New Zealand's residential construction. Using the Behaviour Change Wheel framework, the research will identify behaviours hindering 3D printing adoption, recognise key industry figures who can drive change, develop practical tools, including a VR training programme, and evaluate the effectiveness of these tools. The research process involves a literature review and stakeholder survey to understand the barriers, interviews with industry leaders to design interventions, and a VR trial with construction companies to test and refine the solutions. Expected outcomes include faster and more efficient house construction, strengthened local 3D printing firms, improved visualisation tools, and increased awareness and education about 3D printing benefits.
