Keywords

My research specialty is in understanding the underlying molecular mechanisms involved in onset and development of disease with an ultimate aim of identifying therapeutic and diagnostic targets for disease intervention.  I have been involved in a number of intervention/clinical trials – WEST headache trial; SPIRIT study and RICE study, involving exercise, diet, education, and alternative treatment strategies for interventions.    I am involved in both quantitative and qualitative research.

My current research is in diabetes, diabetic nephropathy, regulation of blood pressure, CVD, obesity and chronic pain.

Exepertise: Discovery of genes and respective gene products in diseased and non diseased states; mRNA differential display; analysis of mRNA and protein expression; isolation and purification of mRNA, DNA and proteins; development and optimisation of molecular and biochemical techniques; metabolic control analysis; purification and characterisation of nucleic acids, proteins and lipids and measurement of metabolites in blood, urine and tissue samples.
