Project Title: Timely Access to Rongo膩 M膩ori in Cancer Care Services for M膩ori

Timely access to rongo膩 M膩ori and cancer care services continue to be a problem for M膩ori health consumers, patients and their wh膩nau. Prior to the arrival of Europeans in Aotearoa, traditional M膩ori way of healing was the only hauora practice M膩ori knew. Today, traditional M膩ori healing is described in various ways, from Rongo膩 M膩ori to the ritual used to heal which includes karakia (prayer), wai (water), access to the ngahere (and whenua. For M膩ori health consumers, patients and wh膩nau accessing cancer care service; seldom they are made aware of or referred early to rongo膩 M膩ori practitioner at the beginning of their cancer care journey. Using tikanga M膩ori methodology and codesign with M膩ori health and iwi providers, our method will include interviews, and hui with rongo膩 M膩ori practitioner, M膩ori and Iwi providers, M膩ori health consumers, patients, their wh膩nau, and health professionals in primary and secondary care in midcentral region to explore ways for timely access to rongo膩 M膩ori in cancer care services for M膩ori.
