Senior Lecturer

School of Design

Jo is a Lecturer in the School of Design, College of Creative Arts, Ƶ.
As a designer her practice focuses on facilitating and democratising access to information. She has a research interest in communicating science, environmental and social issues, particularly in the digital space, and also a professional practice in book design.
Jo has a background in geography and information management,  and has worked extensively in the  NGO sector. She is interested in conservation and sustainability, the built environment, and the personal ethics of design practice.

  • At PCST2021, my visual presentation won the delegates poll for my session, so I was invited to present it again on 26 May in a 'best of' session. - Public Communication fo Science and Technology (PCST) (2021)
  • Extraordinary Anywhere won the best non-illustrated book at the PANZ (Publishers Association of New Zealand) Book Design Award 2017. The following citation was given at the awards on 20 July 2017 by the judges: ‘Intriguing and playful cover assuming the language of maps, but divulging coordinates of poetry or location details. The restricted colour palette works, and the change of pace and the change of place with the sections, the chapter intros and openers gives relief or a cause to pause.
